When to Introduce Products

Tips from our Sales Team and Nicole Whyte, Brand Ambassador

Mentioning that you sell print products to your clients shouldn't feel awkward, and it shouldn't feel like you're ambushing clients with a sales pitch after they've already fallen in love with their photos.

Products aren't an add-on to your service, they should be part of your client experience from the very beginning. When you weave them into your process naturally, your clients don't feel sold to but guided, and that makes all the difference.

Here's how to introduce products in a way that feels genuine, not pushy.

Start the conversation before the shoot

Introducing products at the ordering appointment or after the session feels like a sales pitch. Introducing them before the shoot feels like part of the experience. Mention wall art or albums during the booking process so clients are already thinking about how they'll display their images. Mention them during the shoot and how other people display their images.

Aim to pick up the phone and speak to all client enquiries. This allows you to have a natural conversation, build rapport with your clients, and ask them "How would you like to enjoy your images?” while introducing products without surprise.

Stop assuming clients don't have the budget for products and start assuming all clients do have the budget. It's amazing how much more positive this makes the conversation. Assuming clients want products allows you to discuss products from the start of the client interaction naturally without being 'pushy'.

Let the images do the talking

Show your products in real homes and real settings. When clients can visualise a gorgeous wall product above their fireplace or an album on their coffee table, the decision becomes emotional rather than transactional. You can also make use of our product mock-ups, which are available free of charge in our Toolkit, this is great for showing clients their images featured in a home setting.

Ensure your socials and website all showcase products. It must be a clear theme in your marketing. It sends the correct message to clients and means they are not surprised when you mention products.

Ensure you are 'celebrating the product' by photographing clients who collect their wall art from the studio and posting on socials and tagging the clients to encourage interaction. If you don't work from a studio and you are drop shipping orders to clients, ask clients to share images of the products on display in their homes with you so you can use that as content. You are sending the right message to potential clients and creating engagement.

Guide, don't push

Mention product recommendations around the client's specific images. "I can already picture this one as a large wall print" feels personal and considered, not salesy.

Share your own experience as a client

If you've invested in printed memories yourself, share that story. Be authentic, be real and they will then see how much you value your products to have them yourself.

The truth about selling products

Product sales aren't about being pushy or tricking clients into spending more. They're about helping people preserve their memories in a way that gets seen and cherished, not buried in a folder on their phone or lost when their hard drive fails.

When you introduce products early, showcase them everywhere, and talk about them like they're a natural part of the process, clients don't resist. They start picturing that canvas above the sofa before you've even mentioned it. And when the moment comes for your clients to decide, it doesn't feel like a decision at all, it will feel like the obvious next step.

Start weaving products into your conversations from day one. The sales will follow, and they won't feel like sales at all.
