Wedding Photographer of the Year: Round 1 – Winner Announced!

We’ve teamed up with Photography News and Fujifilm once again for the second annual Wedding Photographer of the Year competition!

After a hugely successful first round, where we saw over a hundred fantastic entries, we are thrilled to announce the first winner of this year’s competition!

And the winner is…

Congratulations to Derby-based photographer Ash Davenport! His dramatic shot of a wedding cake illuminated in golden light from the window above really impressed the judges.

Competition judge and last year’s Wedding Photographer of the Year Natalie Martin said:

“I think it deserves to win, as you focus on it with the details well with the amazing direction of light hitting it. I think it stood out as it was different too.”

Fellow judge and international destination wedding photographer Brett Florens said:

“This image is immediately impactful; it is one of the most unique details shot that I have seen. The regal atmosphere was captured impeccably with the control of exposure on point. I love the way the photographer has captured this image in a way that was unexpected and moving. Great job!”

On hearing about his win, Ash was thrilled to have been considered among so many incredible photographers:

“As a photographer in this industry, there are so many talented individuals out there, so to know I’m actually being considered among them for such a prestigious title means a great deal and actually inspires me that I’m on the right path for the development of my craft.”

What has Ash won?

Ash has won a 14×10″ Bellissimo album of his choice. He’s also now the first of six wedding photographers to be up for the overall title of Wedding Photographer of the Year 2019!

The next winner to be announced will be the winner of round two, which was all about fine art wedding photography. Keep an eye on the Loxley Colour blog to discover who has won!
