Class of 2020: The Landscape judges

Class of 2020 Round one: Landscape

The brand new Loxley Colour Class of 2020 competition starts very soon. We’ll be looking for your best landscape image to kick off the first round. Before you enter, why not get to know the three experts who will be meticulously judging your submission for this round.

Colin Prior

As a Loxley Colour Ambassador, we have been working with Colin for many years and love seeing his outstanding landscape photography. Over the last decade, Colin has worked on documentaries involving mountains, travel and, of course, photography. Most recently, the documentary Mountain Man proved a huge success.

In his own words, Colin told Loxley Colour of his passion for photography and where it all stemmed from. “Having worked for 38 years as a professional photographer, I am still as passionate about photography as when I first picked up a camera. Photography gives us the rare ability to interpret the way we see and feel about the world in a way that makes sense to us.

He goes on to mention the thing that differentiates the work is “not the camera but the person looking through the viewfinder. It is the vision, skill and life experiences you bring to this side of the camera which makes the difference between a great photograph and an ordinary one.”

Margaret Soraya

For Landscape photographer, Margaret Soraya, water is at the core of everything she does and is the subject matter for all of her work. If you take a look at her Instagram you will instantly feel a sense of calm whilst flicking through her beautifully minimal shots of waves crashing off the coasts of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. Margaret’s love of water extends further from photography to water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding, and swimming when she’s not behind the camera.

Margaret believes there is a purpose to photography and, in her own words, “the experiences we have had in life and the pain we have been through gives us empathy and also the passion to want to make a difference in the lives of other people. My desire is to help, encourage and uplift others through my photographic work.”

Improve your photography skills with one-to-one tuition with Margaret or have her speak at photographic gatherings and other creative events.

Konrad Bartelski

Former British alpine skier, Konrad Bartelski is now a world renowned landscape photographer in his own right. He has, however, far from hung up the skis quite yet. When traveling the world and on the slopes, Konrad captures anything that inspires him in that moment. He states, “nothing is staged, planned or organised. My camera comes out when I am motivated by what I see happening around me, when I am exploring this beautiful world.”

In addition to capturing exceptional landscapes, Konrad is also President of Back Up, a charity created to help people with a spinal cord injury get back up the slopes. He is the one person that has been closely involved with the charity throughout its entire history and everyone at Loxley Colour wish Konrad and Back Up all the best moving forward.
