Road to SWPP: Lenny Smith

We are proud to see so many Loxley Colour customers hosting masterclasses and seminars at The Societies’ Convention 2017.

With just eight weeks to go, we thought we’d give you some behind the scenes access to the speakers and give you an insight into them, their opinion on the photography industry and what they’re talking about at the Convention ahead of the big weekend.

This week we speak with award-winning photographer Lenny Smith about his classes and his work.

Lenny’s Career

Lenny has been a professional photographer for 12 years. Running his own studio, Studio 8, he specialises in wedding and wildlife photography. His experience and reputation in the photography industry has resulted in him judging in national and international competitions and becoming a truly influential name in photography.

His stunning images have won him several awards for both weddings and wildlife photography, including the 2016 MPA Scottish Region Animal and Pet Photographer of the Year and the 2015 MPA Scottish Region Post Wedding Photographer of the Year.Lenny Smith: Road to SWPP

He was awarded a Fellowship by SWPP, their most prestigious honour for photographers, and has been hosting seminars and workshops for them for over five years.

HD Video

One of his seminars focuses on learning how to shoot HD videos, Lenny says this is a perfect way for photographers to earn extra income by developing a new skill perfect for wedding photography. Shooting HD videos for wildlife photography packages can also have benefits, expanding your skills and appeal to clients in this very competitive area.

Although famed for his wedding photography, his dramatic wildlife shots have won him critical acclaim too. Lenny is now one of the most well-known photographers in the UK.Lenny Smith: Road to SWPP

Photography is becoming an incredibly competitive market. Learning extra skills such as video shooting and editing is an ideal way to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Leaving his class, Lenny hopes people will have learned that improving their technique is crucial and more important than just having the latest equipment to do the job:

“It’s not about the latest equipment, it’s about you and your approach to photography.”

Lenny & Loxley

Lenny has used Loxley Colour for the past five years, praising our quality and turnaround times, describing them as ‘amazing’. His wildlife photography has won several awards and he has established himself as an influential mentor in the professional photography industry. He has one piece of advice for those who are just starting their photography business:

“Rome wasn’t built in a day. Spend some money on decent training and the rest will take care of itself.”

Lenny Smith’s video class is on 13 January. His other seminar on wildlife photography will be held on 15 January. To book tickets for his seminars, visit http://www.swpp.co.uk/convention/2017/speaker-bio-Smith6051.htm.  To have a look at his portfolios, visit http://www.studio8photography.org.uk/.
